Bottle 1403 - Caravella Santa Maria in a Bottle

This is a model of The Santa Maria, the flagship of Christopher Columbus on his journey from Palos de la Frontera on August 3, 1492. He reached San Salvador on October 12, 1492. This wedel was made from wood. The masts and spars were made of bamboo. The whole hull ship was assembled inside the bottle and mounted on a wooden stand. The bottle rests on a custom wooden stand with a plaque that reads: "Caravella SANTA MARIA - 1492, messa in bottiglia ottobre 2018."
