Bottle 659 - Joseph Bernier
Date Added: 07 June 2009

This is a large one gallon bottle containing several lumberjack tools in a bottle. There is a large saw horse with a square log spanning the cross ends. In the end of one of the "A" frames of the saw horse is a wooden axe embedded in the end. There is also a wooden bucksaw with a metal blade suspended in the square log between the frames. All of the wooden pieces inside the bottle are a light natural color. The most interesting aspect of the bottle are the numerous drawings and names drawn on all of the pieces. The dominate name is that of "Joseph Bernier" who was apparently owned a barber shop. His name appears 4 times on the bottle with the word "Barber Shop" twice by his name as well as scissors and a straight edge razor once. His name, along with several others are listed down the leg of the saw horse with a date beside each which may be the date that person was either born or died. The names appear as follows: "Joseph Bernier, May 3, 1889," "Bordelie Joiyal, August 6, 1892," "Avorore, May 20," "Arthur, 11 January 1917," Wilfred 1933 May," and Irene LaPierre, April 4 1893." The are 8 identical drawings of the profile of a man smoking a pipe, and a single drawing of a man looking straight ahead. The are five drawings of a dog named "Snowball." A bird is drawn on the wood eight times, and a tree four times. Clearly, this is a memorial bottle with names and drawings signifying people, dates, and animals important in their lives. Truly, this bottle depicts a storybook history.
