Bottle 548 - Sailor's Memorial
Date Added: 09 January 2008

A Sailor's Memorial built in a large 1000 watt light bulb. The scene is of a Bark at sea in the upper level of the bulb and and scenes from a greeting and Holy card on the lower part. The Bark is American with three masts, furled sails, and both standing and running rigging with block and tackle made with large white glass beads. An American flag flying from the mizzenmast rigging. The ship is nicely detailed with channels for the shroud lines, a lifeboat hanging from a davit in the stern, a rudder house with a large cabin, and hatches. There is a clay base made from light multicolored clays of blue, white and red. The clay bevels toward the bottom of the bulb on each side and the bevel is covered with a card showing a portrait of Jesus inside a lifesaver with rope around the lifesaver. On each side are identical American flags with 48 stars. On the opposite side of the bevel is a delightful winter scene from perhaps a Christmas card. The light bulb is mounted on a large decorative wooden base custom built to hold the socket end of the light bulb.
