Bottle 891 - Hand Holding a Suspended Winder
Date Added: 22 August 2014

This is a 4 arm winder suspended in a bottle by a string held in a hand that is part of the stopper. This winder is believed to have built in the mid 1800s in a hand blown bottle with an applied lip. The winder has 4 carved arms with a carved scroll on each end. There is a blue and a white thread around each of the arms. Between the top and bottom arms are two carved ball in cages each with a single ball trapped in the carvings. The winder is suspended in the bottle with a string that is held by a carved hand on the end of the wooden stopper. The stopper has a double crosspiece that is curved to the shape of the bottle. Each crosspiece goes though the stopper making it impossible to remove. There are also additional small crosspieces that go through the main crosspieces with a wooden peg going through each side making it impossible to remove the crosspieces through the main stopper. The top of the bottle has a rounded chain carving with one link.
