Bottle 253 - Philippines
Date Added: 01 October 2005

A delightful model of an Asian hut in a bottle made for the tourist trade. It's a scene of a rattan hut with a ladder going up to the hut built on stilts. Above a window with a rattan shutter is a sign that says "Philippines." There is a large palm tree with a bunch of coconuts in the top. There is a smaller tree. Around the base of the hut is a woman in a red and white dress carrying a plate-like item in her hand. There is a stack of firewood, rocks, simple pole fence and miscellaneous other items. Somewhat unusual is the fact that this is in an upright bottle. The top 2" of the neck is wrapped in hemp rope. The bottom 2 1/2" of the bottom is also wrapped in hemp. The bottle Is covered with an orange paper that goes up to the hemp rope. It is unknown if the bottle was cut since the hemp would hide the cut. It is also possible that everything was inserted through the neck as are other similar models made in the far east, and that the rope merely takes up what would be unused space in the lower part of the bottle.
