Bottle 336 - Calvary Scene
Date Added: 01 October 2005

This is the Calvary scene with 3 crosses and numerous symbols built in a bottle. The main cross faces the front of the bottle and has a holy card cutout of Jesus glued on. The hands and feet of Jesus are attached with wooden pegs. Above the head of Jesus is an "INRE" plaque attached. On top of the cross is a very nicely carved and painted rooster. On one side of the cross arm is a black hammer and on the other side is a black pair of pliers. A ladder with 5 rungs in behind the cross. In front of the ladder is a red woven rope. In front of the cross of Jesus is a long spear with decorative red yarn crossing over a sponge also on a long pole. There are 2 other crosses in the bottle built identically and both fact the cross of Jesus. They are in natural wood and have no features on them. In the bottom of the bottle is a cross wooden base which holds the 3 crosses. This base is glued into white glue which holds the items intact. On the front of the wooden base is a chalice, and on each side of the chalice is a dice and a flail. A third dice in on the other side of the cross near the ladder. The bottle is a very old and has an interesting shape with a "bubble" like bulge in the neck.
