Bottle 315 - Crucifixion with Symbols |
---|
Date Added: 01 October 2005
This is a crucifixion scene of Jesus cut out from an old holy card hanging on a wooden cross. The cross has decoratively carved ends and mounts on a cross piece base. Inside the bottle are a large number of items typically found in scenes of the crucifixion. On one side of the base is a hammer painted black, mallet with a black handle, and black wooden pliers. On the other side is a lantern with a metal handle and a flail with threads for the whip. On the front of the base are three nails painted red and what is left of a ladder. The ladder has come apart and the pieces are in the bottle. On the back of the base is a spade and a pick painted black. There is also a long spear with a red tip and a black thread wrapped around the pole near the top and a sponge on a long pole. On the cross piece of the cross is a chalice on one side and a rooster with an open beak and a real feather for its tail. The bottle is sealed with a long wooden shaft with a tamper proof cross piece going through the shaft.
