Bottle 305 - Crosses
Date Added: 01 October 2005

This is a fairly simple scene of the crucifixion with 3 wooden crosses and tools representing the crucifixion. The crosses are all made the same way with a mortised and tendon joining the crosspiece to the main upright of the cross. The crosspiece of the main cross is made from dark wood and the main cross upright is light wood. The other crosses have dark wood uprights and light wooden crosspieces. Where the crosspieces join is a carved "X" on all three crosses. The crosspieces are carved with slight curves or scallops as is the top part of the uprights. The main cross is slightly larger than the others and it faces the front of the bottle. The other crosses face the sides and have very narrow crosspieces because of the depth of the bottle. The crosses are mounted on a single long base. Along the base is a spear, dice on a pole, sponge on a long pole, and a mallet. The bottle is a one pint liquor bottle with "Federal Law Forbids Sale or Re-use of This Bottle." On the base of the bottle are the markings "72," "62," a "Z" in a square, "D16", and 9357N."
