Ships, Folk Art, and Whimsey in Bottles

"Sunrise on the Oregon Trail - Families Moving Westward" is a diorama of a family driving mules pulling their Comstock Wagon as it fords a small steam on their way out west. The carving and details wonderfully depict the scene and show a very realistic portrayal of what must have been a very common scene in Western lore. Riding in the wagon is a man in a hat holding on to the reins. Beside him is his wife in a long blue outfit and bonnet. There are two mules pulling a wagon with it's back wheels just emerging from the stream. The wagon rides on a floor of brown and grayish wooden base decorated with numerous rocks and shrubs. The bottle is cradled in a custom made base with two large mountain peaks in the background with a large red sun just behind them and a stream flowing between them. Uniquely, the scene inside the bottle runs through the bottle from one side to the other. The river originates from snow melt on the mountains, through the bottle, and out to the front. The bottom is painted light blue and has a carved mountain peak with the sun shown behind it. The words "Sunrise on the Oregon Trail" and "Families Moving Westward" are in raised letters. Inside the bottle cradle are the words "The Impossible Takes a Little Longer" and under the base is the printed and signed name of the Artist "Larry W.
