Bottle 1181 - Friendship Sloop Tern in a Bottle
Date Added: 08 March 2015

"This simple model is based on the Friendship Sloop designs by Wilbur Morse of Maine from around 1900. The model is built with an aspen hull and mahogany bulwarks, deck and trim. The sea is made of air hardening clay and the sails are made of cotton rag paper. Tern was built in Maine at the turn of the century (1900) and is found in the Friendship Sloop registry of boats. Tern has been docked in New London harbor of recent years. I took a little poetic license on the model and the registration number on the hull was actually from a Catalina 22 that I owned a few years ago. The hull color, sail numbers and several other features have all changed many times over the years and this model, like all models, is an artist rendition." Bill Sheridan
