Bottle 893 - Lexington, 1776

The Continental Navy was formed in 1775 during the American Revolutionary War. The CNS Lexington was originally the brigantine Wild Duck; which was purchased in 1776 and converted to a Brig. Lexington served the Continental Navy actively until she was captured in 1777. A brig is a vessel with two square rigged masts, and the mainmast carries a gaff rigged fore-and-aft sail. This model is of a fully rigged brig, with two masts, 15 sails, and 16 cannon. The Continental Navy Jack flies from the mainmast, and the Lexington’s own ensign from the gaff. It is in an old syrup bottle embossed with "1776." The bottle is decorated with a Turks head, corked and sealed with wax that has been stamped with the letter "R."
