Bottle 1411 - Bucintoro in a Bottle

The "Bucintoro" was the parade ship for solemn ceremonies; the one on which the Doge of the Republic of Venice, on Ascension Day, went to the lagoon for the marriage ceremony with the sea. The work represents the moment of the Ascension festival in which the Doge on his Bucintoro went to the lagoon to celebrate the marriage of Venice with the sea. On this day we remember two events: the Venetian maritime jurisdiction (from which Ascension) and the diplomatic success of Venice, which received dominion over the Adriatic for propitiating reconciliation between Pope Alexander III and Emperor Federico Barbarossa (1177). It is from this event, says the legend, that the ceremony was born in which the Doge went on the Bucintoro to the Lido.
