Winder with Tassels
Date Added: 01 October 2005
This is a very delicate and well made yarn winder/niddy noddy in a bottle. Each winder has 4 arms and there are 4 separate winders connected by silken threads wrapped around of the arms to both the winders above and below. The bottom set of winders has threads of brown silk toward the outside and white threads to the inside. The winders in the middle has white threads to the outside and blue threads on the inside. The top winders has all white threads. The winder arms are connected to a delicate center column. The column on the bottom is wrapped with alternate blue and gold ribbon. The middle column is wrapped with gold and white ribbon and the top column is wrapped in gold and blue ribbon. Attached to the end of each winder arm is a tassel made from silk threads. The tassels are mostly white but some are brown in color. The bottle is hand-blown with a pontil mark on the bottom. It is sealed with a large cork. Covering the cork is a silk cloth hood. The silk fabric has faded with age and the cloth top is quite fragile. The hood is burgundy colored and worn with threads starting to pull apart from age and color fading. The hood is sewn with threads to draw the hood tight around the cork. There is also tow burgundy cords with burgundy pompoms on the end. These are knotted around the hood and bottle for added decoration.
