Fans and Ribbons

This is a bottle whimsey containing six carved fans with ribbons going through the blades of each fan. The bottle has two levels with three fans on each level. Red ribbons go through the fans on the bottom level of the bottle on the outside and white is used for the fan in the middle. The opposite pattern is used for the top level with white fans used for the outside fans and red on the fan in the middle. Blue, red, pink and cream dots are painted on the individual blades of the fans near the top. The frame for the fans is made with natural colored wood and there is a silver thread wound around the posts. There are two flowers on the outside of the top level. There is a dark blue cloth covering the bottom of the bottle. The bottle is sealed with a wooden stopper with a carved decorative top. The stopper has a crosspiece making it impossible to remove the stopper. The artist is anonymous but possible lived in western New York where several of his bottles have surfaced.
