Buck Saw
Date Added: 27 June 2007
This is a wooden buck saw built in a half pint liquor bottle. All elements used in construction are made from wood except for a metal saw blade and wire between the handles. The saw's handles are pulled together by an dark copper colored wire with a wooden slat twisted through the wire in the middle. This slat is anchored against the cross wood of the saw to create the tension to hold the saw blade tight. The bottle is sealed with a wooden stopper that tapers to a curved point inside the bottle. There is a cross piece going through the stopper inside the bottle to make this a tamper proof stopper that can't be removed. There top is a round section of dowel. The bottle has a raised "Half Pint" lettering on one side and a "Federal Law Forbids Sale or RE-Sale of this Bottle" on the other side. This phase dates the bottle from 1933 - 1964 and it is believed that this bottle was made in the 1950's.
