Carpenter in a Bottle
Date Added: 15 March 2017
This is a Carl Worner Lumberjack or Carpenter Scene in a Bottle. The Lumberjack or Carpenter is dressed in overalls and a tie and is standing outdoors with a paper scene behind him showing the landscape. Beside him are the tools of his trade and some complete work. There is a saw horse with a froe for splitting logs, a saw, axe, and hammer leaned against chopped logs. It is not signed, but features Worner's typical carving of the figure, his styled trees, and a Worner style floor made from cigar box wood. The bottle is a 1920’s screw cap Indian Hill Bourbon Whiskey bottle with embossed Indian heads, arrows, and totem poles on each side and a rectangular "window" to display the scene. It is the only known Worner bottle with a single figure and is the only screw cap bottle known to have been used by him.
