The Old Home Garage
Date Added: 01 March 2007
This is a fascinating and humorous model of a car and truck garage built inside a 1000 watt light bulb. There is a main garage build in a shed style with three walls and a large opened front. The garage has three windows with a white frame. The sides are shown in a brick-like pattern with many different colors used for each section. The roof has the following phrases: "Motor Burned Up," "Hubs Caped," "Trunk Locked," "Plugs Dead," "Doors Shut," "Radiator Dry." Inside the garage ate three vehicles; tow 1930 - 1950's station wagons?, and a large truck with a covered bed. Beside the garage are three gas pumps painted in different colors. Behind the pumps is a large truck. In front of the garage is a shed with 4 wooden posts supporting a lean-to roof. On the roof are the phrases: " Tire Shop, We Blow Them Up ." There is a second and larger shed with a hip roof with the phrases: "Face Lifted for Smiles," on one side and "Polish for Beauty" on the other side. Inside the larger shed is a very long truck, perhaps representing a semi-truck. In front of the garage and between the two sheds are 5 various types of cars and trucks. All the vehicles are colorful with red chassis and green cabs or beds. The vehicles have headlights, front windows and hood ornaments. Above the scene is an arch that is against the curve of the bottle. The sides are painted green and the top is painted red. The following words are on one side; "They Will Not Fly - They Will Not Run, They Drink Gas Just For Fun." On the other side is the phrase; "The Old Home Garage, We Never Die, We Just Gas Away." On one side at the bottom of the arch are the phrases; "Broke My Axel," "Tube Stuffing," "Body Bent." On the other side it has; "Mirrors Busted," Seat Covered," "Top Cracked." The whole scene is suspended near the lower part of the light bulb and approximately one inch lower is another circular floor with labels that state: " Made by R. E. Searight, 315 Norton St., Long Beach 5., California" on one side and "Size of Globe - 1000 Watt, Telephone -GA-2-8205, March 10, 1958. This floor is supported by a round wooden column the size of the bulb opening. On the front side is a picture of Robert E. Searight with a label underneath that has "Robert E. Searight, 315 Norton Street, Long Beach 5, California." On the back side is a quote: "When you get what you want in your struggle for self And the world makes you king for a day, Just go to the mirror and look at yourself, And see what the man has to say. For it isn't your father or mother or wife Whose judgment upon you must pass, The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life Is the one staring back form the glass." The bulb is mounted in a square wooden box in natural wood. Under this box is handwritten: "Made by Robert E. Searight, 315 Norton Street, Long Beach 5, California."
