The junk is a type of boat from China and the Far East, so called because one of the main woods used for the construction is the rush, the hull is flat and the bow sharp, while the stern is swollen, the first documents relating to this type of ship dates back to 300 BC, the sails of the junks are made of mats stiffened by reeds and bamboo (battened sails) and therefore do not have that complex set of cables necessary for the movement of sails, a characteristic of European ships. The hull of the flat-bottomed junks is reinforced by a longitudinal crossbar, called "the dragon's backbone", the large central rudder is fixed to the stern which guarantees an easy steering of the ship, an innovation that will arrive in Europe only after centuries, and the Chinese are also far in advance for the production of gunpowder, in the model the bow "bombard" which was used before boarding which took place via the two bow piers. I made the model with bamboo wood in a 75 cl. Container, following the description of a "command" junk of the ninth century, only the oars are in metal, as I usually do "kit" my models with bases of appropriate support to enhance the subject. The bottle sits on a custom parquet wooden stand.
